Arsenal's Asano joins Stuttgart on loan

Fresh off a breakthrough performance with Japan at Rio 2016, Arsenal summer signing Takuma Asano has been sent to German second-tier side Stuttgart on a season-long loan.

Stuttgart announced the move in a statement on its website Friday, with Asano, 21, joining a club desperate for a good run of form after suffering relegation from the Bundesliga.

"I look forward to the time in Stuttgart and want to do my part to ensure that the club achieves its goals," Asano said after completing his medical.

After joining Sanfrecce Hiroshima as an 18-year-old in 2013, the pacey attacker went on to make 56 appearances for the southern Japanese side, bagging 11 goals while being named J-League Rookie of the Year in 2015.

Asano made the switch to Arsenal in the summer for a modest €1.5-million fee, with Arsene Wenger pegging the striker as a prodigious talent.

"Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future. He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years," Wenger said after signing Asano.
