Pulis: West Brom could see Berahino's best when window shuts

Managing Saido Berahino has been such a lesson in psychology for Tony Pulis that the Welshman backs himself to eventually write a lengthy thesis on the West Bromwich Albion forward.
The youngster tried forcing a move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and both Stoke City and Crystal Palace reportedly offered around £20 million for his services this transfer window.
Although Pulis wants to conduct some business before the Aug. 31 deadline, he would also appreciate the auction gavel sounding so Berahino can focus on returning to form.
"He'll be fine. Getting over the next three or four days will be massive for him," Pulis said.
"I just think, one day, I will write a thesis on it. It will be a long one. Is this the fourth or fifth window? It seems like about 20 with him. The kid has had to put up with it, you can't stop it, unfortunately. Some of the stories I could tell you."
Before last year's Spurs interest, Berahino had enjoyed a campaign of 14 goals over 32 starts, but has since been a distracted figure with just four goals in 33 appearances.
The 23-year-old has started every match this term, including Tuesday's embarrassing penalty-shootout defeat to third-tier Northampton Town, which dumped the Baggies from the League Cup's second round. If it wasn't for Berahino's wastefulness, West Brom would've booked a visit from Manchester United in the next stage.
"I was disappointed he never scored on Tuesday, his running stats were fantastic but he really should have scored five," Pulis explained. "He had three chances when it's just him and the keeper. One goes in and hopefully the gates open."
Pulis will hope Berahino can open his account on Sunday, when newly promoted Middlesbrough visits the Hawthorns.
