Middlesbrough announced Tuesday the acquisition of Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan, with the 21-year-old leaving the Gunners for the first time since joining in 2014.
Chambers proved himself a regular contributor on the right-hand side of Arsenal's back four in the 2014-15 season, making 36 appearances across all competitions as Mathieu Debuchy recovered from an ankle ligament injury.
But, with Hector Bellerin's emergence last season, Chambers fell down Arsene Wenger's pecking order, making just 12 appearances in the past Premier League campaign.
While he did feature in a 4-3 loss against Liverpool this season, it seems Chambers couldn't secure a stay at the Emirates and now joins a newly promoted Boro team looking to survive the trials and tribulations of the English top flight.
Boro head coach Aitor Karanka is hoping the England international acquits himself well.
"I'm really pleased," Karanka said in a statement. "It's a position where we've been working towards bringing the right player in.
"We haven't been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he's going to help us a lot.
"I'd like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That's important and we’re looking forward to working with him."
