Chelsea's wide-ranging search for defensive reinforcements has reportedly brought the club back to a familiar face.
The Blues are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of much-maligned Brazilian David Luiz, the eccentric centre-back who left Stamford Bridge for the French capital two years ago.
Dominic Fifield of the Guardian reports that Chelsea has already seen an initial £30-million offer spurned, with PSG looking for something closer to £38 million.
Antonio Conte has thus far been unable to lure the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli to west London, and it seems as though the fiery bench boss has now turned his attention to the polarising Luiz.

The Brazilian, 29, moved to the Parc des Princes in 2014 for a fee that is thought to have reached £50 million, and went on to capture a slew of titles with the French giant. But the presence of compatriots Thiago Silva and Marquinhos means Luiz, who has featured in all of the club's matches thus far this season, faces stern competition for a starting role.
Should he move back to Stamford Bridge, Luiz figures to slot directly into Chelsea's backline, as the ageing John Terry and Gary Cahill would likely be displaced by the ball-playing central defender.
His signing would signal the third significant deal for the Blues this summer after the arrivals of Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante.
