Stoke City has completed its second high-profile swoop of the day, signing Dutch international defender Bruno Martins Indi from Porto on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The Staffordshire side announced the move Wednesday with a statement on its website, claiming that a stipulation was included in the contract that gives Mark Hughes' lot the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Martins Indi, 24, makes the switch to the Britannia Stadium with Manchester City's Wilfried Bony, who made a similar agreement with the Potters earlier Wednesday.

The Portuguese-born Oranje standout has been with the Primeira Liga giant for two seasons after a €7.7-million move from Feyenoord, making 47 appearances and scoring twice.

"It's been a productive day for us having managed to get three important deals over the line," club Chief Executive Tony Scholes said

"We set out to address several areas of the squad that Mark Hughes felt needed looking at this summer, and we are delighted that we have been able to do that."

Hughes also spoke with the media, claiming that the club has monitored Martins Indi amid interest from other sides.

"We have been aware of Bruno for quite some time now, as many other clubs around Europe have been," he admitted.

"He is a very accomplished defender who has a lot of experience at a very high level, including playing for Holland during their good run at the 2014 World Cup."
