One club hijacking another's deal in the waning minutes of the window is a staple of transfer deadline day, and this summer proved to be no different, as Tottenham swooped in and signed Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle.

The deal came after widespread reports on Wednesday claimed that the Frenchman was on his way to Everton, the Magpies and Toffees thought to have reached an agreement on a £30-million deal.
But Spurs, initially thought to be reluctant to meet that valuation, came in during the final hour of the deadline to bring aboard the dribbling wizard, reportedly paying that same exorbitant amount to secure the final marquee signing of the Premier League transfer window.
The Guardian has the details of the exciting twists in the dual between the two clubs for Sissoko's signature:
A medical was booked and a private jet hired to transport the midfielder to Merseyside only for consternation to be provoked at Goodison Park when Sissoko, who had always hankered after Champions League football, failed to board the flight.
Sissoko, 27, starred for France at Euro 2016 - particularly in the final against Portugal - and while his performances at club level have been significantly less impressive on a consistent basis, Spurs took the leap on a player who was courted by the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, and Inter throughout the summer.
Newcastle, meanwhile, makes a handsome profit on a player who cost the club just £1.8 million when he signed from Toulouse in 2013.
