Newton downplays hits to head after loss to Broncos
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn't criticize officials after incurring numerous blows to the head during Thursday's 21-20 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Newton suffered multiple hits to the helmet, including a fourth-quarter strike from Broncos safety Darian Stewart that left him slow to get up.

The reigning MVP disagreed with the notion that referees allowed him to be hit in the head.
"I wouldn't agree with that. ... It was a very physical game on both sides. I try to warn the refs every time I do get hit in the head, but if the flag is not called, it's OK. We just have to find ways to move the ball," Newton said during his postgame press conference.

Newton indicated he was asked a few questions in concussion protocol after the game, but downplayed the incident.
"There's been a couple of questions, but nothing too serious," Newton said.
Newton then spoke candidly about losing to the Broncos for a second consecutive game after drawing scrutiny for leaving abruptly during his postgame presser at Super Bowl 50.
"I feel shitty. I don't like to lose. I know you guys are anticipating so much, and I'm doing my best to keep it together," Newton said. "I knew this would happen, from a media standpoint - 'How would Cam react to the media?' Truth of the matter is, the Denver Broncos are the defending champions, we had an opportunity to put them away and we didn't."
