Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Friday, September 23 (all stats exclude Thursday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

NAME VALUE OPPONENT
DJ LeMahieu (COL) at LAD 9
Jose Altuve (HOU) vs. LAA 8
Sean Rodriguez (PIT) vs. WAS 8

LeMahieu ranks third among all second baseman with at least 100 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers with a .952 OPS. Because he's playing on the road, his price has dwindled, making it easier for him to return cash-game value. With a .511 OBP over his last 10 games and a matchup against Scott Kazmir in his first start off the DL, expect another strong outing.

Mid-Tier Targets

NAME VALUE OPPONENT
Chase Utley (LAD) vs. COL 7
Jorge Polanco (MIN) vs. SEA 6
Hernan Iribarren (CIN) at MIL 5

Utley is a cheap cash-game option. He has a reasonable shot at scoring a pair of runs atop the Dodgers' order with erratic righty Jon Gray taking the mound for the Rockies.

If Iribarren finds himself in the starting lineup, the career minor-leaguer has shown an ability to hit against right-handed pitching in his September call-up. He would enjoy two or three at-bats against struggling RHP Zach Davies, who owns a 4.40 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Nothing to See Here

NAME VALUE OPPONENT
Dee Gordon (MIA) vs. ATL 4
Ian Kinsler (DET) vs. KC 4
Joey Wendle (OAK) vs. TEX 3

While Wendle has hit .308 against LHPs at the major-league level, 13 plate appearances are clearly not enough to say whether his lefty-on-lefty reverse splits are sustainable. Even if Wendle is able to get on base, he won't receive much support from the rest of the Athletics' bats, who have a .693 team OPS vs. LHPs in 2016. Cole Hamels should be able to hold Wendle in check.
