Here are theScore's shortstop value rankings for Friday, September 23 (all stats exclude Thursday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
| NAME | VALUE | OPPONENT |
|---|---|---|
| Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. LAA | 8 |
| Marcus Semien (OAK) | vs. TEX | 8 |
| T.J. Rivera (NYM) | vs. PHI | 8 |
Correa has three multi-hit games in his last four outings. The star shortstop and the Astros will take on the Angels' Alex Meyer, who has yet to pitch past the fifth inning in his five major league appearances this season, en route to a 5.63 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. Correa has one of the easiest matchups on the slate and should find a way to return cash-game value, even at his steep price.

Mid-Tier Targets
| NAME | VALUE | OPPONENT |
|---|---|---|
| Didi Gregorius (NYY) | at TOR | 7 |
| Dansby Swanson (ATL) | at MIA | 7 |
| Manny Machado (BAL) | vs. ARI | 6 |
Gregorius has reverse splits: though he bats left, the Yankees' shortstop has slashed .313/.350/.455 against opposing left-handed pitchers this season. While hitting seventh in the order is a hindrance to cash-game success as it will limit his plate appearances, he could still bring a solid return against middling Blue Jays' LHP Francisco Liriano.

Nothing to See Here
| NAME | VALUE | OPPONENT |
|---|---|---|
| Jose Iglesias (DET) | vs. KC | 4 |
| Erick Aybar (DET) | vs. KC | 3 |
| Chris Owings (ARI) | at BAL | 2 |
Aybar will garner some attention because he's hit .292 with a .370 OBP over his last nine games and is riding a four-game hit streak. Unfortunately, the Tigers are facing LHP Danny Duffy and Aybar has managed a paltry .551 OPS against lefties this season. His limited power profile kills any contrarian value afforded by his low salary.
