Here are theScore's shortstop value rankings for Saturday, October 1 (all stats exclude Friday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Dansby Swanson (ATL) | vs. DET | 9 |
Jonathan Villar (MIL) | at COL | 8 |
Xander Bogaerts (BOS) | vs. TOR | 8 |
Swanson has been a well-rounded contributor over his last 10 games, hitting .333 with a home run, seven RBIs, nine runs scored and two steals. The surprisingly-potent Braves offense could thrive against an out-of-sorts Jordan Zimmermann.
Villar isn't cheap, but has the Coors Field factor on his side, and has shown off his power stroke this week, homering three times in as many games in Texas. Even if the ball doesn't leave the park, he remains a threat on the basepaths.
It's a small sample, but Bogaerts is hitting .416 at home against left-handed pitching.
Mid-Tier Targets
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Jose Reyes (NYM) | at PHI | 7 |
Troy Tulowitzki (TOR) | at BOS | 6 |
Didi Gregorius (NYY) | vs. BAL | 6 |
Tulowitzki and Gregorius have middling averages but also have 44 home runs between them. At their mid-range prices, they offer solid power potential, though either player could also go hitless.
Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Jose Peraza (CIN) | vs. CHC | 4 |
Corey Seager (LAD) | at SF | 3 |
Brandon Crawford (SF) | vs. LAD | 3 |
If Peraza can get aboard against Jon Lester, his speed could make the pickoff-averse lefty sweat. Lester hasn't allowed more than a run in any of his last eight starts, however, so a productive night from Peraza seems unlikely.
Compared to other premium-priced options, Seager hasn't quite been living up to his billing of late. He's hitting .250 over his last 10 games, with a home run and three RBIs. San Francisco's AT&T Park isn't the most hitter-friendly of venues, either.
