Report: Motiejunas' qualifying offer with Rockets expires

Free-agent power forward Donatas Motiejunas' $4.4-million qualifying offer with the Houston Rockets has expired, ESPN's Calvin Watkins reports.

The two sides reportedly met on Saturday, but were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract. Motiejunas will remain a restricted free agent as the two parties continue to negotiate a deal.

B.J. Armstrong, Motiejunas' agent, claimed last month that the Rockets had yet to make his client a "serious offer" and were "using the rules of restricted free agency to their advantage."

With the Rockets' season set to tip off in just a few weeks, Motiejunas has put himself at serious risk of missing a portion of the 2016-17 season.

Motiejunas was nearly a member of the Detroit Pistons last February after being dealt to the Motor City prior to the trade deadline, but was forced to return to Houston after failing his physical with his new team.

The 7-footer averaged 8.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 37 games for the Rockets this past season.
