Rose admits to being rusty, says triangle offense still 'foreign'
Having missed almost the entirety of preseason due to his civil trial, New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose is still rounding into form.
Rose had a respectable debut Tuesday, scoring 17 points in 30 minutes, but after the 29-point loss to the reigning champion Cleveland Cavaliers, he admitted to some rust.
"I felt good, but a couple of finishes I'm still trying to shake the rust off," Rose told Marc Berman of the New York Post. "But I was happy the way I was still able to get to the rim."
Rose showed flashes of his former glory on the occasional darting drive to the basket, but only got to the line twice and recorded four turnovers against just one assist.
Following up on remarks made during training camp, Rose pinned his struggles on the complexity of the controversial triangle offense.
"Just getting used to the offense," Rose said. "Of course I want to pick-and-roll every time down but with the triangle ... you got to get used to it so it's not that foreign. We got a lot of room to make up on that side of the ball, too."
