Mourinho dealt 1-match touchline ban, £50K fine for referee squabbles
Twice charged by the FA over the past week for recent misconduct, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho learned Wednesday he would have to pay a £50,000 fine and serve a one-match touchline ban.
The first charge arrived following comments he made about referee Anthony Taylor prior to United's trip to Liverpool on Oct. 17.
Saying it would be "difficult" for Manchester-based Taylor to control the game, Mourinho breached rules barring any manager from speaking about an official before a match, and incurred the £50,000 penalty.
The second offence stemmed from a halftime incident last weekend against Burnley, in which Mourinho confronted referee Mark Clattenburg over a non-penalty call.
He was also handed a standard £8,000 fine to go along with the ban after admitting to using "abusive and/or insulting words" toward Clattenburg.
The Portuguese will now miss United's match Sunday at Swansea City.
A repeat offender when it comes to the FA's rule book, Mourinho has now incurred financial penalties nearing a quarter of a million pounds during his time in English football.
Had he appealed the sanction, Mourinho could've risked an additional match ban - and possibly even more serious punishment.
