Report: Mourinho looking to shake up all aspects of United's affairs
Jose Mourinho has decided things at Manchester United simply aren't up to scratch.
BBC Sport's Simon Stone understands the Portuguese is looking at the club with a holistic but critical eye, deeming the general culture and medical department not befitting an outfit of United's standing, or a manager with his trophy haul of 23.
He isn't done there, with the planning of preseason tours and matchday travel, sports science, and members of his squad all apparently undergoing a thorough examination from Mourinho.
The former FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid handler has already voiced his displeasure at Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw missing Sunday's 3-1 victory at Swansea City through injury, declaring "for the team, you have to do anything."
It's not necessarily just that pair that have left a sour taste for Mourinho, though, with 10 players spending a total of 30 matches in the treatment room this campaign. Additionally, Zlatan Ibrahimovic being granted attention from his personal physio Dario Fort is going to be reassessed, along with the United fitness regime in its entirety.
There are further aspects of both club and personal life that are going to be looked into, such as United's preseason tour of China being thrown into disarray by the late cancellation of a friendly against Manchester City in Beijing, and Mourinho's unhappy status as a long-term resident in a Manchester hotel.
In his typically abrasive nature, the 53-year-old criticised his Premier League contemporaries for not predicting a title challenge for their respective employers at the start of the season, saying that United was firmly in the hunt for domestic honours.
But it hasn't worked out that way. Countless reshuffles of his stubbornly adhered to 4-2-3-1 system have yielded little upturn in results - despite the expensive acquisitions of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Eric Bailly - and United sits sorry in sixth, already eight points adrift of league leader Liverpool.
Things haven't fared much better on continental duty either.
Due to the fifth-placed finish under predecessor Louis van Gaal in 2015-16, Mourinho is leading the Red Devils out in the Europa League. Currently occupying a standing below Feyenoord and Fenerbahce in Group A, United is facing the prospect of an embarrassing early elimination from the competition.
Now many of his players are away during the international break, Mourinho has time to ring the changes at various levels - from the Carrington training pitches, to the bus schedule for away trips.
Shortly after his squad regroups, title-chasing Arsenal visits Old Trafford on Nov. 19.
