Eagles' Agholor taken to see sports psychologist
The Philadelphia Eagles are handling receiver Nelson Agholor with care.
The second-year pro admitted to having a fragile psyche after his bout with drops continued in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. After his concerning comments, he was taken to see a sports psychologist, head coach Doug Pederson told the media Wednesday, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
"I have to get out of my own head," Agholor said after his illegal-formation penalty cost the Eagles a touchdown and he dropped another perfect pass in the open field. "I'm pressing so much and I'm worried about so many things, I have to go out there and catch the ball (with my body) instead of with my hands. Because I'm thinking too much. And I'm so worried. It's such a selfish thing that I need to stop.
"This game is a tough game for tough people. And at times, mentally, I can put myself in a storm. And I need to jump out of the storm."
Those words signaled alarm bells for Pederson. He told reporters on Monday that he would have a conversation with Agholor.
"My concern is for him as a person, him as an individual," he said. "I want to make sure that he's in a good spot."
Pederson also said he would consider sitting Agholor to allow him an opportunity to clear his head. Either way, the Eagles are obviously concerned about their 2015 first-round draft pick.
