NHL senior vice president of Player Safety Stephane Quintal will be on location Saturday when the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs meet for the first time since their venomous meeting early last month, TSN's Darren Dreger reported Thursday on Insider Trading.
Dreger said the NHL's on "high alert," and suggested Quintal will be involved in helping strategize the control of potential misconduct.
The two teams traded 171 penalty minutes in the Nov. 6 meeting won by the Maple Leafs. Here's a rundown of the indiscretion involved:
- Morgan Rielly and Nazem Kadri throw questionable hits on Jannik Hansen and Daniel Sedin in succession.
- Derek Dorsett turns down a challenge from Matt Martin, instead engaging Leo Komarov in a fight.
- Alex Burrows fights Reilly after appearing to spear him the shift prior.
- Martin jumps rookie Troy Stecher, which leads to Ryan Miller and Frederik Andersen leaving their creases to join the minor melee.
- Erik Gudbranson shouts death threats at Martin in the hallway after the game.
