Report: Despite rotation additions, Braves still looking at Sale, Archer
Undeterred by their bottom-dwelling status the last few seasons, the Atlanta Braves are quickly emerging as serious players in free agency and on the trade market.
The Braves are still showing interest in starters Chris Sale and Chris Archer, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, even after signing veterans Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey and trading for Jaime Garcia.
The Braves would prefer Sale over Archer, Crasnick notes, though it's been reported the Chicago White Sox's asking price for the 27-year-old is higher than it was in July. The Braves were also in contact with the Rays regarding Archer's availability this offseason, though no deal materialized.
Ozzie Albies, a 19-year-old Braves prospect and one of MLB's most promising young infielders, is generating significant interest from teams, yet the Braves seem unwilling to include him in any potential deals.
The Braves have been swift in adding to their roster this offseason, and the future looks more promising now than it did a few years back. Other than Colon, Dickey, and Garcia, the team has a promising core of Dansby Swanson, Freddie Freeman, Matt Kemp, Ender Inciarte, and Julio Teheran to build around heading into 2017.
