Durant wanted more from Klay: 'He should've had 80'

Klay Thompson exploded for 60 points in Monday's shellacking of the Indiana Pacers, but it could've easily been more.

In fact, fellow Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Kevin Durant went as far to say that Thompson should've kept going during his unconscious shooting streak.

"He should’ve had 80, to be honest," Durant told Anthony Slater of the Mercury News. "He took 14 threes. The six he missed were probably open. He missed a free throw, got his layup blocked. We talked about it on the bench. He said he should’ve had 70. I said you could’ve had 80-plus. But he had to be perfect to do that."

Thompson wasn't perfect, but he was pretty close. He hit 21-of-33 from the field and 8-of-14 from deep while drilling 10-of-11 from the line. Had he literally not missed, as Durant wanted, Thompson would've topped 80.

But then again, what held Thompson back more than anything was a lack of playing time. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr showed good sportsmanship by taking Thompson out when the game was clearly decided - well before the fourth quarter.

That meant Thompson only had 29 minutes to work his magic. Had he gone the full game at the rate he was shooting, topping 80 wouldn't have been out of the question.
