Report: Yankees among several teams interested in Romo
One big name on the relief market might be closer to finding a new home.
Several teams - specifically the New York Yankees - have expressed interest in right-hander Sergio Romo, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Romo was limited to only 40 games in 2016, but was one of the few bright spots (2.64 ERA) in an otherwise dreadful Giants bullpen that led the league in blown saves.
The 33-year-old has spent his entire nine-year career with the San Francisco Giants and is regarded as one of the more reliable late-inning arms available whose success has translated to the postseason throughout his career, helping the Giants win three World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
While typically used in a setup role, Romo has experience closing games, as he converted 38 saves to go along with a 2.54 ERA in 65 games in 2013. He's also been surprisingly effective pitching against left-handed hitters, posting an opposing line of .242/.306/.485 throughout his career.
The Yankees have been linked to a handful of relievers this offseason, including Kenley Jansen and a potential reunion with Aroldis Chapman.
