Watch: Bernard Hopkins gets knocked out of ring in final fight

The last fight of Bernard Hopkins' storied career ended in bizarre fashion.

Backed up by Joe Smith Jr. in the eighth round of their main-event bout on Saturday, the 51-year-old was hurt badly by a flurry of punches from his younger opponent. As Hopkins fell back, he slipped between the ropes and took a frightening spill to the outside, appearing to land on his head at ringside.

After much confusion surrounding the dazed Hopkins, it was ruled that he did not return to the ring in time, and Smith was rewarded the win by ring-out TKO.

After the fight, Hopkins confirmed he was sticking to his retirement plans despite the odd finish.
