Whiteside expected more shot attempts in Heat's loss
Hassan Whiteside set his career high in shot attempts Tuesday night, yet the Miami Heat center wasn't satisfied.
He had career highs in shot attempts (22), field goals made (14), minutes (47), and total points (32) - but the Heat still lost to the Orlando Magic in double overtime. However, despite the inflated shot totals, Whiteside only attempted three shots across the two overtime periods, and only one on the very first possession of the second overtime.
Holding in his frustrations about his opportunities - or lack there of - down the stretch wasn't exactly a priority.
"They say I'm the franchise player. I would think I should get more, but I don't know, man," Whiteside told Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. "I don't think so, to be honest. But coach's gonna coach."
The explanation for his lack of shots could be attributed to two factors. One of which is Tyler Johnson, who set his personal career high - and franchise record for points by a reserve - with 32 off the pine, while shooting an efficient 13-of-20 from the field.
The second factor could just be straight up fatigue. Whiteside was gassed after having to handle Orlando's slew of big men over his 47 minutes of playing time.
" I was feeling it," Whiteside said. "I know the guys were feeling it. I'm going to really feel it tomorrow."
