Cyborg flagged for potential USADA violation
Being passed over for a UFC women's featherweight title shot could soon be the least of Cris Cyborg's worries.
The 31-year-old fighter, whose real name is Cristiane Justino, was informed of a potential United States Anti-Doping Agency violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample taken Dec. 5, the UFC announced Thursday.
The exact nature of the violation was not disclosed.
This is the second failed drug test for Cyborg, who served a one-year suspension from competition after testing positive for an anabolic steroid following a December 2011 bout.
Cyborg made her UFC debut this past May after an 11-year stretch during which she established herself as the most dominant female fighter at 145 pounds. She currently holds the Invicta FC featherweight belt and is 2-0 inside the Octagon after winning a pair of 140-pound catchweight bouts against Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg.
The catchweight bouts were necessitated by the UFC not having a 145-pound division, though the promotion recently announced that Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie will fight Feb. 11 to determine an inaugural women's featherweight champion. UFC president Dana White said Cyborg turned down an offer to fight for the belt, and it doesn't appear that she'll be getting another one until this situation is resolved.
