Raines 'extremely honored and humbled' to land in HOF
"Rock" is in the Hall.
After he was formally announced as one of three players elected to the 2017 Hall of Fame class Wednesday, former big-league outfielder Tim Raines took to Twitter to thank the 86 percent of BBWAA voters who ticked his name in the selection for baseball's pantheon:
Raines also thanked the Canadian city of Montreal - appropriately in French - for his election. The 57-year-old made his debut with the Expos, spending 13 seasons with the club between 1979 and 1989, racking up 635 stolen bases and seven consecutive All-Star seasons while slashing .301/.391/.437 north of the border.
Raines will be inducted July 30 alongside Jeff Bagwell and Ivan Rodriguez, who also surpassed the 75-percent threshold needed for eligibility. Former MLB commissioner Bud Selig and Atlanta Braves vice chairman John Schuerholz will also go in this summer as non-player inductees.
