Monaco signs Flamengo stud Jorge
Ligue 1 leader Monaco has snatched prodigious Flamengo left-back Jorge ahead of the principality side's title run.
The Rio-based side announced the move with a statement on its website Friday, with reports suggesting that the once-capped Brazilian international moves to the Cote d'Azur for a fee of €8.5 million.
"Jorge has been transferred to Monaco," the statement read. "Flamengo thanks the athlete for all his efforts and wishes him to succeed in this new challenge."
Recently called up for the first time by Tite for a friendly against Colombia, Jorge, 20, has already made 87 appearances and bagged five goals for Flamengo after emerging from the club's academy in 2014. This season in the Brasileirao, Jorge has started 32 matches, pairing two goals with an assist.
Scheduled for a medical in Monaco, Jorge, whose full name is Jorge Marco de Oliveira Moraes, will add depth to Leonardo Jardim's table-topping squad, and will likely be an understudy to first-choice left-back Benjamin Mendy and versatile full-back Djibril Sidibe.
