The Top 100 NFL Players of 2016 were selected by a panel of theScore's NFL editors including Justin Boone, Arun Srinivasan, Dan Wilkins, and David P. Woods based on the individual players' performances this past regular season.
theScore's Top 100 NFL Players of 2016
Luke Kuechly, LB, Panthers
102 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
23 | 60 | 34 | 20 |
Kuechly would certainly be higher on this year's list were it not for a concussion that sidelined him for six games. There isn't an inside linebacker with a more complete skill set than Kuechly, excelling in coverage, while boasting an unmatched ability to determine plays before the snap. At 25, Kuechly is already on a Hall of Fame trajectory. - Srinivasan
Andrew Luck, QB, Colts
4,240 passing yards, 31 TDs, 13 INTs
341 rushing yards, 2 TDs
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
38 | 38 | 13 | 45 |
Luck enjoyed the best season of his career, notching new highs in completion percentage and yards per attempt, and continued to elevate those around him despite a severe lack of supporting talent. Luck remains the only thing separating the Colts from basement-dweller status. - Woods
Marshal Yanda, G, Ravens
2 sacks allowed
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
22 | 75 | 14 | 22 |
Yanda might be the most underappreciated player in the NFL. Offensive linemen rarely get the praise they deserve, but Yanda has been a first- or second-team All Pro five of the last six years, with Pro Football Focus rating him as their top guard in each of the last three seasons. Even playing through a partially torn labrum wasn't enough to hold Yanda down in 2016. - Boone
Joey Bosa, DE, Chargers
10.5 sacks, 41 tackles, 1 FF
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
30 | 37 | 33 | 32 |
Bosa missing all training camp reps due to a holdout, and the first four games of the year with injury, was supposed to be catastrophic for his hopes of contributing as a rookie. But this wasn't just any first-year player. The No. 3 overall pick was unstoppable from the moment he first set foot on the field, giving voters an easy choice for Defensive Rookie of the Year. - Wilkins
Trent Williams, LT, Redskins
1 sack allowed
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
25 | 39 | 54 | 14 |
Williams missed four games due to suspension, but his body of work over 12 games was outstanding. The five-time Pro Bowler graded out as the best run-blocker and overall offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus and has been paramount to Kirk Cousins' development over the past two years. - Srinivasan
T.Y. Hilton, WR, Colts
91 catches, 1,448 yards, 6 TDs
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
24 | 29 | 40 | 37 |
After suffering through a season without Andrew Luck, Hilton was elated to have his star quarterback throwing passes his way in 2016. Their connection resulted in a league-high 1,448 receiving yards, with Hilton torturing secondaries with his speed and savvy. - Boone
Joe Thomas, LT, Browns
3.5 sacks allowed
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
31 | 20 | 31 | 47 |
There's no one more hardworking than Thomas, who became the fifth player all time to be named to 10 straight Pro Bowls. Surrounded by losing teams and often the subject of trade rumors, Thomas continues to pick up his lunch pail and perform at a Hall of Fame-worthy level. - Boone
Derek Carr, QB, Raiders
3,937 passing yards, 28 TDs, 6 INTs
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
53 | 10 | 17 | 49 |
The Raiders are knocking on the door of Super Bowl contention due largely, if not entirely, to Carr's rise to stardom. A broken leg suffered in Week 16 was a devastating end to a season that saw him make a case for league MVP honors, and any lingering doubts about his value were effectively squashed with how Oakland was exposed over the next two games. There's still progress to be made, but few quarterbacks can do the things Carr does with the ball. - Wilkins
LeSean McCoy, RB, Bills
234 carries, 1,267 rushing yards, 13 TDs
50 catches, 356 receiving yards, 1 TD
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
36 | 22 | 22 | 35 |
McCoy operated as the focal point of the Bills' offense, rushing for 1,267 yards and 13 touchdowns in a resurgent campaign. The 28-year-old gashed opponents with the most yards per attempt for any player with over 150 carries and was the primary reason why the Bills led the NFL in rushing offense for the second consecutive season. - Srinivasan
Alex Mack, C, Falcons
3.5 sacks allowed
Boone | Srinivasan | Wilkins | Woods |
---|---|---|---|
19 | 59 | 20 | 16 |
Mack’s impact for the Falcons is difficult to quantify, but what we can say for sure is his presence as the anchor had a stabilizing effect on both sides of the line. He made the five-year, $45-million deal he got look like an instant bargain. - Woods
