Day laments his drives at Riviera: 'I've been hitting it off the map'
Jason Day hasn't been able to take advantage of a favorable Riviera Country Club the first two-and-half days, posting back-to-back rounds of 1-under at the Genesis Open.
Day has struggled to find the fairway off the tee, which has led to difficulty to hit greens with his approach shots.
"I've been hitting it off the map, unfortunately. You can't get yourself out of position," said Day after wrapping up his round Saturday.
Stats | Round 1 | Round 2 |
---|---|---|
Fairways hit | 6/14 | 4/14 |
Accuracy | 42.86% | 28.57% |
Greens hit | 10/18 | 8/18 |
Accuracy | 55.56% | 44.44% |
The Aussie stated his troubles with the driver aren't mechanical, but between the ears.
"You're losing focus of actually the target and I'm getting in my own way. Which is unfortunate because I feel like things were rounding nicely at Pebble Beach and then coming into this week. I felt really good about my game."
While Day has finished his second round, others weren't able to get out Friday before the heavy rain hit Los Angeles. With the Saturday afternoon groups expected to take advantage of a soft course, the world No. 1 said the game plan for the weekend is simple.
"I've got to find somewhere inside the treeline and get it on the green."
