Embiid unhappy with 76ers' handling of his knee injury
Joel Embiid isn't happy with the way the Philadelphia 76ers have dealt with his knee injury.
Embiid was originally given a day-to-day timeline for his recovery, but the Rookie of the Year favorite has sat the last eight games and will miss at least another week. He's also been diagnosed with a slight meniscus tear.
"I wasn't too happy with the way it was kind of handled before, as far as the day-to-day part," Embiid told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk during Thursday's practice. "I was told that I was going to miss at least two or three weeks, so I wasn't happy with the way it was handled."
The 22-year-old prefers a more transparent approach. Instead of continuing to call him day to day and leaving Embiid open to constant questioning, the team announced that he would miss four games after the All-Star break.
"I thought keeping my name out there was going to just literally have people think about me all the time, instead of just saying when I was going to be back," Embiid said. "So I am happy that they did that today and said that I am out for the next four games."
Sixers president Bryan Colangelo owned up to the mistake when speaking at a press conference Friday.
"I surely can see (why fans are upset by handling of Embiid injury). That mistake will not be made again," Colangelo said according to Tom Moore of Calkins Media.
The Sixers also had a difference of opinion with their franchise player earlier in February when Colangelo said the injured Embiid's energetic dancing at a Meek Mill concert was "not the best thing to see."
