Westbrook notches 28th triple-double in just 19 minutes vs. Lakers
Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder is back to his triple-double ways in his team's first game back following the NBA's All-Star break.
With the Thunder hosting the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena, Westbrook needed roughly 19 minutes to notch his 28th triple-double of the regular season, adding to his historic tally at the 9:44 mark of the third quarter with his 10th rebound.
In 35 total minutes, Westbrook scored 17 points on just 4-of-18 shooting from the field, grabbed 18 rebounds, and dished out 17 assists in a convincing 110-93 victory for his Thunder. It was his second game of the season with at least 18 boards and third with at least 17 dimes.
The 28-year-old now has 65 triple-doubles for his career, good enough for fifth in league history. He still has a ways to go to catch fourth-ranked Wilt Chamberlain with 78, while Oscar Robertson leads all players with a staggering 181.
Westbrook entered the night averaging 31.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.1 assists. Should he finish the 2016-17 campaign with those types of numbers, he'd become just the second player ever (Robertson, 1961-62) to average a triple-double for an entire regular season.
With three more in that department, Westbrook would tie Chamberlain (1973-74) for the second-most triple-doubles in a single season at 31.
