The NHL's Department of Player Safety was sprung into action Saturday when Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning took out unsuspecting Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel with a devastating open-ice hit.
There was no penalty called on the play despite Manning clearly targeting Guentzel with the late contact.
Guentzel returned, and promptly picked up his second point of the game.
