Here are the Top 200 rankings heading into Week 19 of the fantasy hockey season:
The rankings apply to standard-scoring leagues. Skaters accumulate stats value via goals, assists, plus/minus, penalty minutes, power-play points, and shots on goal. Goalies track wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts.
Rank | Player | Position | Team | Trend |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Brent Burns | D | SJ | |
2 | Sidney Crosby | C | PIT | |
3 | Connor McDavid | C | EDM | |
4 | Filip Forsberg | LW | NAS | ▲ |
5 | Alex Ovechkin | LW | WAS | |
6 | Mark Scheifele | C | WPG | ▲ |
7 | Nicklas Backstrom | C | WAS | |
8 | Braden Holtby | G | WAS | |
9 | Evgeni Malkin | C | PIT | |
10 | Devan Dubnyk | G | MIN |
Forsberg's incredible week was a product of improved team play by the Predators. His shooting percentage was grossly inflated as part of his eight-goal surge, but the team will continue scoring at an improved rate. Scheifele's consistency thrusts him into the top 10 as well. He hasn't been shooting much, but he had four multi-assist games from Feb. 14 to Feb. 21.
If not for Forsberg, Marchand would be the league's hottest goal scorer. He offers consistent production across the board in most fantasy formats to keep him valuable when not finding the twine. Gibson's rise is overdue, but he has continued to strengthen his play as the season goes on. Fewer starts for backup G Jonathan Bernier help solidify his stock.
Toews is coming off a second star of the week performance in Week 18. He hasn't been able to sustain production at this high a level since his rookie season, leaving reason to be skeptical. Quick was ranked much higher in the first draft of these ranks, but a likely timeshare with G Ben Bishop (below) caps his value and appeal.
Hanzal soars into the ranks with his trade to the Wild, as they now have three reliable lines of scoring. Rantanen has been the most reliable member of the Avalanche, and he is a tremendous trade target for owners in keeper leagues. Schenn is coming off a three-game scoring streak, but he has been much to streaky this season to be reliable in head-to-head leagues.
Owners in re-draft leagues should be making speculative adds of Stamkos even though he hasn't be guaranteed to return this season. He continues to ramp up activities and seems to be on track for his original timeline of a March return. He could be a big boost just in time for the fantasy playoffs. Budaj hangs onto some fantasy value, as he's much more likely to be in a viable timeshare with Vasilevskiy than he would have been with Quick.
