Report: Warriors to sign Barnes, not Calderon, after Durant injury
Kevin Durant's injury has caused the Golden State Warriors to veer from their original plan.
The Warriors will waive veteran point guard Jose Calderon after fulfilling their promise to sign him, and then plan to sign Matt Barnes, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Durant suffered a hyperextended left knee during Tuesday's loss to the Washington Wizards, and underwent an MRI. The results of that test are expected to be revealed Wednesday, but Warriors fans shouldn't be comforted by the fact management is reacting by signing a forward.
Calderon was expected to join the Warriors after being bought out by the Los Angeles Lakers in recent days. Barnes was waived by the Kings last week, as Sacramento made roster space to complete the trade that sent DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans.
Barnes, a 14-year veteran, averaged 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 54 games with the Kings. The 36-year-old played two seasons with the Warriors between 2006-2008, acting as a key role on the 2006-07 Warriors team that upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.
