49ers GM Lynch: Kizer 'blew the doors off' during interview
Former Notre Dame standout DeShone Kizer apparently has a big fan in San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch.
The top quarterback prospect met with the 49ers on Wednesday, and Lynch said he "blew the doors off" during the interview before gushing about the rest of the quarterback class.
"This whole thing is not just about an interview, but if you were grading him on that alone, he blew the doors off. He's an impressive young man, his film's very impressive," Lynch said Thursday, according to Chase Goodebread of NFL.com. "I think the same can be said for Deshaun Watson. You watch what he's done, just putting a team on his shoulders and taking down a great champion. (Mitch) Trubisky, (Patrick) Mahomes, I think it's a very talented draft class at that position, one we're very excited about."
The 49ers hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and don't have a quarterback on their roster as Colin Kaepernick plans to opt out of his deal.
Trubisky and Watson are widely considered the top two quarterback prospects, but after Lynch's comments on Kizer, he could possibly be in play for San Francisco with their first-round pick.
"Look, I don't think you need to be too transparent to realize that's a position we're looking at. We don't have any (quarterbacks), so that's a position that's a big focal point of our preparation right now," Lynch said.
