Barkley blasts Lavar Ball for saying Lonzo is better than Curry
Lavar Ball is drawing just as many headlines as his son Lonzo Ball, the UCLA standout that could go No. 1 in the 2017 NBA Draft.
He is understandably excited for his son, but some of Lavar's outlandish claims fall outside of the realm of reason. For example: predicting Lonzo would be better than two-time MVP Stephen Curry.
Charles Barkley checked Lavar for his fanciful comments.
"Just because you say some s---, doesn't make it right," Barkley told Sean Deveney of The Sporting News. "He's gonna be better than Steph Curry? That's what he said. Steph Curry has won a couple MVPs, he's pretty good.
"Man, let me tell you something. That's that AAU s---. You can't say a guy is going to be better than Steph Curry, a guy who has played 30 college games. I know you can be proud of your son, but at some point, it becomes stupidity."
Barkley is hardly the first to ridicule Lavar for his wildly optimistic comments, but the proud papa has only doubled down since making the comparison to Curry.
"That don't have to be for everyone else. But to me I think my son is better than Steph Curry and I don't care what nobody says. I'm saying he's taller, faster, stronger," Lavar said.
"Put him in the right situation. Steph Curry shoots the ball. Lonzo shoots the ball. He dribbles the ball. Lonzo dribbles the ball. Like I said, he's going to have problems if he tries to go against my son one-on-one, but it's a team game.
"I don't know why everybody gets mad for. What I'm not going to say is Lonzo is pretty good but he's no Steph Curry. Stop it. Steph Curry is pretty good but he's no Lonzo Ball."
