Boras to pay minor-league clients' full expected salaries

With MLB teams deciding to cumulatively release hundreds of minor leaguers at the end of May, one agent is taking their lost wages into his own hands.

Scott Boras said he'll pay the full expected salaries of each of his minor-league clients who were released by their team, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Boras said the releases were "completely unanticipated," but that his agency wanted to make sure his clients were paid what they expected to earn.

Teams pledged to pay minor leaguers a $400 weekly stipend through May 31 when the league shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, with the cancellation of the minor-league seasons anticipated, many teams have opted to release veterans in their system, with over 1,000 total cuts expected.

Boras represents some of the league's most prominent stars, including Gerrit Cole, Bryce Harper, Cody Bellinger, and Anthony Rendon, and he recently added outspoken Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell to the roster.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer accused Boras last week of meddling in MLBPA affairs, telling the agent to "keep your damn personal agenda out of union business."
