Yoenis Cespedes was on track to rejoin the Athletics lineup on Tuesday but an untimely setback may derail those plans.

Cespedes tested his hamstring prior to Monday's game in Texas - the fourth straight game he's missed - and after experiencing some irritation it wouldn't be a surprise if the A's take the cautious approach and keep him out of the lineup.

Despite experiencing discomfort in his wonky hamstring Monday night, Yoenis Cespedes will serve as Oakland's designated hitter Tuesday against the Rangers.

Cespedes, who's hitting .238/.316/.464 with four home runs through 22 games this season, hasn't played since suffering the injury while legging out an infield single on April 24.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin indicated after Monday's 4-0 victory over the Rangers that the 28-year-old outfielder was only '50-50' to start Tuesday.

The Oakland Athletics will be without outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on Monday for a fourth consecutive game, as the 28-year-old continues to battle a strained left hamstring, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Cespedes hasn't played since suffering the injury Thursday night against the Houston Astros, when he strained his hamstring legging out an infield single. The Cuba native is hitting .238/.316/.464 with four home runs through 22 games this season, but has just two hits in his last 15 at-bats.
