Coyotes' Mike Smith finally given medical clearance after MCL strain ended his season

Phoenix Coyotes starter and ace puck-handler Mike Smith saw his season end prematurely, on March 24th, when he sustained an MCL sprain in a game against the New York Rangers.

Down the stretch, as the Coyotes were fighting for their playoff lives, they were forced to roll with Thomas Greiss as a result of the injury to their workhorse starter.

Smith's injury wasn't thought to be that serious, but obviously those estimates turned out to be a bit off since the Canadian Olympian was only medically cleared last week.

"He's 100 percent and feel great," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said of Smith on Wednesday, per Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.
