Cowboys vice president: Dez Bryant extension during season 'a real possibility'

The Dallas Cowboys have begun talks with wide receiver Dez Bryant on a contract extension, and the team believes it could get done during the season, if not before.

In an interview on 1310 The Ticket, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said there is “a real possibility” the extension is agreed upon before the end of 2014.

“We’re certainly taking a long look at that,” Jones said. “As we do with any great player in our organization who’s nearing the end of a contract, we start to look at it and see how we might structure something going forward. I think that’s a possibility, yes.”

Bryant is entering the final season of his five-year, $11.8 million deal and is scheduled to earn $1.78 million in base salary this season.

The 25-year-old has become one of the premier wide receivers in the league, earning his first Pro Bowl selection in 2013 after hauling in 93 receptions for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He made 92 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012.
