Hurricanes introduce new head coach Bill Peters, who cites 3 things that need to change
Carolina Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis introduced new head coach Bill Peters on Friday, and the bench boss quickly pointed to three areas that he will focus on:
Not a bad place to start, considering the Hurricanes posted a 25th ranked home record of 18-17-6, and a 28th ranked power-play that converted at a success rate of 14.6 percent.
Peters will demand an attention to detail and a strong work ethic from his players, stating ice time will have to be earned: "I have the ultimate hammer and the hammer is ice time." He also revealed an inside look at his general coaching philosophy:
Peters added he will "set [the] bar high and give Canes fans something they can be excited about."
It appears as though Peters will be able to look at last year's roster and have a good idea of what he will be working with in his first year on the job.
He will, however, have help behind the bench in the form of a former Hurricane, as 2006 Stanley Cup champion Rod Brind'Amour has been hired to help with special teams.
With that, a new regime is in place, one that will attempt to lead the Hurricanes to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
