The Detroit Pistons shored up their frontcourt depth by signing bulky center Aaron Gray to a multi-year contract, according to Yahoo Sports;
It's yet another depth move in a Pistons' offseason that has been all about just that. Gray doesn't figure to be a major piece but protects against the loss of Greg Monroe and should be a suitable spot-player behind Andre Drummond against larger opponents.
This past season, Gray averaged 1.8 points and three rebounds in 9.6 minutes over 37 games split between Toronto and Sacramento. He's entering his eighth NBA season out of Pittsburgh after being a second-round pick of the Chicago Bulls in 2007 and has averaged 3.4 points and 3.7 rebounds for his career.
You can't teach size, as they say, and Gray has the gift of being 7-foot and 270 pounds. However limited, that has a use.
Terms of the deal are not yet known, but shouldn't exceed the league minimum by much, if at all. He made $2.69 million last season.
