Desperate to bolster an injury-ravaged lineup, the Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly checked on veteran outfielder Alfonso Soriano, who was released by the New York Yankees on Monday, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Beset by injuries to both Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind, the Blue Jays have few appealing options within the organization to serve as the club's designated hitter, at least temporarily.

Soriano, a seven-time All-Star, hit just .221/.244/.367 (68 OPS+) with six home runs through 67 games before getting designated for assignment July 6.
