Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Brandon Morrow took another significant step Thursday in his laborious recovery from May surgery to repair a torn tendon sheath in his index finger, throwing off a mound for the first time since his procedure.

“It was good,” Morrow told Sportsnet's Shi Davidi of the session. “I still had the tape job on my finger so it’s not completely there, but the bullpen was fine. With just this little tape here I feel pretty free with my finger so I was able to loosely go through my mechanics and feel the slope of the mound and everything was pretty good.”

Morrow, who made six starts before landing on the disalbed list, threw roughly 30 pitches and will continue to throw bullpen sessions until the club determines the next step in his recovery process.

“Everything has been positive,” said Morrow. “Real slow, but always going in the right direction. …

“I felt better with my command and just going through my mechanics than I thought I would (on the mound). My finger felt pretty good, so I was encouraged by it.”
