Flyers sign Zac Rinaldo to 2-year contract extension worth reported $1.7M

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed pugilistic fourth-line grinder Zac Rinaldo, the club announced on Tuesday.

"I’m surprised that we even (started) to talk about (a contract extension) so early but I am thrilled," said Rinaldo. "Philadelphia is where I started my NHL career and this is where I want to be so I am really happy. This definitely gives me a lot of confidence by the Flyers showing that they have confidence in me.  I know they want to see me get better as a player and this is the place to do it."

In 67 games with the Flyers during the 2013-14 campaign, Rinaldo managed two goals and four total points while logging just over seven minutes of even-strength ice-time per game. Rinaldo also fought seven times (amassing a 3-3-1 record per hockeyfights.com voters), was assessed over 150 penalties in minutes and was suspended four games for a rule 48 violation, an illegal check to the head of Sabres defender Chad Ruhwedel.
