Brewers' Rodriguez records 40 saves for 5th time in career

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez joined some elite company with his 40th save of the season in the team's 4-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Only two other relievers have accomplished the feat of 40 or more saves in five seasons: Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera, who both have nine apiece.

The 32-year-old Rodriguez has converted 40 of his 45 save opportunities to this point and is the owner of a 3.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.

Rodriguez has an outside shot to match or exceed John Axford's franchise record of 46 saves in a single season (2011), as the Brewers have 16 games remaining.
