Philip Rivers says Chargers won't avoid Richard Sherman

After Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman didn't see a single pass thrown his way from Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the season opener, debates surrounding both that strategy and whether or not Sherman is the NFL's best cornerback promptly ensued.

Either way, San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has no plans to take after Rodgers and avoid Sherman's side of the field this Sunday, per ESPN:

"Well, I certainly understand why. [Sherman] is a great corner. But at the same time, I think you have to be smart. It's not one of the deals that you want to go after him by any means. But our approach is not going to be to completely eliminate [Sherman] and not throw over there any."

If Rivers' comments are any indication, Sherman could see his first true action of the season this Sunday, finally getting some opportunities to make plays on the ball.

Then again, while avoiding him may not be intentional heading into the game, Sherman's lockdown coverage likely forces quarterbacks to do so within a given play regardless.

Any quarterback asked about avoiding his side of the field leading up to the game is likely to respond similar to the way Rivers did, but actually testing Sherman in coverage on game day is another thing entirely.
