Edgar Allan Poe is a sophomore receiver for Army

Edgar Allan Poe has returned to West Point - literally.

It's been 185 years since American literary hero Edgar Allen Poe was first kicked out of the United States Military Academy at West Point, commonly known as "Army" in college football repertoire.

But now he's back, according to the Washington Post. Well, sort of.

A young man with the same name as the late famous author currently plays wide receiver for the Army Black Knights. The sophomore from Tuscon, Ariz. is listed at 6-foot-4, 222 pounds, and currently has one catch for 29 yards. That came in last week's 47-39 victory over Buffalo.

As a freshman, Poe caught just one pass for six yards, but it went for a touchdown against Stanford. Not a bad debut.

What's even better is that Poe's nickname during his time at Tucson’s Cienega High was "The Raven". Apparently he was named after his father.

He has read much of the author's work too, telling azcentral back in 2011 that "He's kind of grim, dark, but he's famous for it."

However, Poe won't be chanting "nevermore" any time soon as it pertains to his on-field performance; this Saturday he'll suit up for what will easily be Army's biggest test, when the (1-0) Black Knights play at (1-1) #15 Stanford. Poe will look to replicate his luck from last year when he hit pay-dirt against the Cardinal.

It's commonly known that the author Poe had a "short, yet tumultuous" time at West Point, trying nearly every trick in the book to get kicked out. Let's assume the current Poe isn't looking to suffer the same fate as the former.
