Penguins holding Crosby, Malkin out from start of training camp for 'precautionary' reasons

Geoff Burke / US PRESSWIRE

The Pittsburgh Penguins are holding superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin out of the start of training camp.

Head coach Mike Johnston said that he expects their respective absences to be "very short," and explained that Crosby's ailment is unrelated to his wrist, which he opted to rehab over surgery.

The team release states that they "both suffered injuries while preparing for camp."
