Spurs HC Popovich says team pool on Boris Diaw's weight starts at 275lbs.
Coming off an NBA championship and a strong performance for France in the FIBA World Cup, Boris Diaw probably guessed the jokes about his weight would get a bit of a breather for a little while.
Unfortunately for Diaw and his occasional spare tire, that doesn't appear to be the case.
Diaw wasn't with the San Antonio Spurs as they held pre-training camp media sessions on Friday, as he's been excused from the first chunk of camp. Instead, he'll join the team when they get to Berlin ahead of their Oct. 8 exhibition game there.
His absence allowed head coach Gregg Popovich to poke fun at the portly power forward.
"Boris is having pina coladas," Popovich said Friday. "We have a pool where you guess his weight. You have to start at 275."
It's all love from Popovich, of course, but don't be surprised if Diaw is a few pounds overweight. It's kind of his thing. 275 pounds might be shooting a little high, though, given that his weight fluctuations haven't officially pushed him above 245 in the past.
