Belle's homer ties the game at 2-2 en route to a 3-2 win and the Indians' 99th win of the season. They would go on to finish the shortened-season in first place at 100-44, before losing the World Series in six games to the Atlanta Braves.

The Indians slugger ends the year with 50 home runs and 52 doubles, batting .317/.401/.690 and finishing runner-up in the American League MVP vote.

New York Yankees outfielder Babe Ruth establishes a new major-league record with his 60th homer of the year in the eighth inning of a 4-2 win over the Washington Senators.

Ruth's two-run shot off left-hander Tom Zachary broke his own record of 59, which he set in 1921. His 60 homers would remain the single-season mark until Yankees slugger Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961.
