Cardiff owner Vincent Tan on club rebrand: 'Red's my lucky color'

Few owners are as animated as Cardiff City's Vincent Tan, who can usually be seen pulling up his oversized pants during home fixtures ...

... and booing his own side after earning a draw.

It also takes an animated owner to strip a club of its identity, as Tan did when he took over Cardiff in 2010 and re-branded the Bluebirds, who have been, you know, blue, since 1899, and changed the team's official color to red.

In conversation with Sky Sports on Wednesday, Tan addressed the rebrand and dropped an interesting piece of information regarding how the change of color was directly related to his investment in the club.

"I put in, I think £20 million and said that's enough and said I'm willing to put in maybe £100 million if I'm able to change the color from blue to red and I said red's my lucky color and also said to them it's the national symbol, the national flag of Wales is red and it also has a red dragon so I'd like to use that and the red dragon (badge).

"I didn't like the bluebird. I said take off the bluebird and finally we had a compromise and we kept the bluebird flying underneath the dragon. After everything was agreed, I invested and gave money to buy players and then we got promoted. The year that we changed, we got promoted."

Of course, Cardiff are now back in the Championship after finishing at the bottom of the Premier League table last season. Where's your luck now, Tan?
