Martin Brodeur staying fresh, skating with QMJHL team

With less than a week to go before the start of the regular season and without an NHL contract to his name, Martin Brodeur doesn't appear quite ready to give up on the possibility of returning to the ice this season.

The 42-year-old goalie is skating with the QMJHL's Gatineau Olympiques - the junior team his son Anthony plays for - "in order to keep ready," agent Pat Brisson told Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record.

Brisson further indicated his client believes he has sufficient gas in the tank to help a team looking for an experienced backup goalie or, if need be, someone to step into the starting role.

Further to that, Brodeur remains motivated to play for a team that can contend for the Stanley Cup, and to achieve at least 12 more wins in order to reach 700.

Whether or not there's a demand for a goalie who posted a .901 save percentage over the past two seasons remains to be seen, but it's not looking good at this point.
